The National Forensic Centre, NFC, is a department within the Swedish Police Authority. In close collaboration with the investigative operations, the department leads, develops, and performs forensic work for successful crime fighting. The department is responsible for the entire forensic process within the police - from forensic crime scene investigations, laboratory activities, and IT forensics to forensic expert opinions in criminal cases. The assignment also includes acting as expert support and conducting training, strategic research, and development to future-proof the police's forensic capabilities. We are located at a total of eleven operational sites, from Umeå in the north to Malmö in the south. Our largest laboratory and departmental office are located in Linköping.
The IT Forensics Unit at the National Forensic Centre has a comprehensive competence in the IT forensic area, which includes image, video, audio, sensor technology, data, electronics, and mobile telephony. The unit also conducts examinations of handwriting, documents, and banknotes. The operation is tasked with developing new methods and tools for the entire Police Authority to streamline and enhance overall capabilities.
Image and Audio Analysis Section

The Image Comparison group primarily works with performing comparative forensic examinations related to images/videos in criminal investigations. We are growing and have the opportunity to expand our team and are now looking for image examiners to work with image comparisons.
Job Responsibilities
A forensic image comparison is performed with the aim of answering whether a person or object is the same as in a comparison material. In a criminal investigation, for example, one might want to examine whether it is the suspect seen in a video clip, or if the object seized is the same as that seen in an image.
Before the examinations, you analyze the material's image technical properties and assess its suitability for conducting the examination. You perform comparative examinations according to quality-assured methods. After conducting an examination, you relate your results to various hypotheses and assess how expected/unique the results are based on the different starting points. Finally, you communicate your results and assessments both in writing and verbally to colleagues as well as non-experts, such as investigators and prosecutors. The examinations require an eye for detail and the ability to evaluate your observations.
You will be trained through an internal training program in forensics in general as well as in the subject area. During the training period, theoretical education will be combined with practical work in the regular operations.
The position also includes the group's other forensic activities such as research and method development to ensure and future-proof the group's expert competence. You may be expected to participate in various development projects, give presentations and training, and engage in quality assurance activities.
